Here are some tree minion thoughts. The one I sketched out could either hop along like a frog, or sort of waddle from leg to leg, or even both--waddle-walking towards the character, then leaping at them. You could even give him a vine-tongue if you wanted to play up the frog aspect. I can sketch out some other ideas if you'd like, too.
